Two hundred fifty-four counties, no permit, no wait: Texas is an easy state to buy a pistol in; the harder question is which one. CZ has just given the 9mm service class a new option with the DUTY 4.0. It is striker-fired, in 9x19, and built on a serialized internal chassis so the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is modular. The slide is cut for direct-mount optics with fixed sights as backup, and the 4-inch barrel is not threaded. The refined SFDA trigger pulls at 5.6±0.9 lbs, travels 9±1 mm and resets in 4 mm.
Houston and Beaumont carry buyers usually look at the compact DUTY 4.0 C first, 15+1 rounds (17+1 extended), 770 g and 135 mm tall. Dallas, Fort Worth and Plano nightstand buyers lean toward the full-size DUTY 4.0 F, 17+1 rounds (19+1 extended), 780 g and 143 mm tall. Austin, Georgetown and College Station buyers tend to pick by hand size. Each size is sold with a manual thumb safety (MS) or without. New release, $729 MSRP.
This is the longer grip of the two DUTY frames. It holds 17+1 rounds, 19+1 with the extended plate, stands 143 mm (5.6 in) and weighs 780 g (27.7 oz) unloaded. Same slide, same four-inch barrel as the compact, so the sight radius is identical; you buy the F for the grip and the extra rounds.
CZ built the DUTY around a serial-numbered chassis that the polymer frame module wraps around, the same idea that lets a buyer change frame size without buying a new serial-numbered gun. The trigger is a refined SFDA striker unit, 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) pull, 4 mm (0.16 in) reset, 9 ± 1 mm (0.4 ± 0.04 in) travel. The slide takes optics by direct mounting; CZ's product photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield units in place. Sights are fixed, the four-inch barrel is not threaded.
A manual thumb safety is the one thing that separates this model from its sibling. It sits beside the three internal safeties, firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger-bar safety, and does not change the trigger pull.
Who is it for: home defense, duty use, competition and long range sessions where the extra grip and two more rounds matter. If you already shoot a P-10, the DUTY is the next step in the same family, with a new chassis and the optics done right.
No purchase permit, no waiting period: that is Texas. Pick the Texas dealer you want at checkout and the DUTY 4.0 ships to that FFL; your dealer runs the NICS check at pickup. Magazines, optics and ammo ship to your door. What you pay is the live-confirmed price, checked against stock as you order.
Questions buyers ask: Is the DUTY 4.0 a good first carry gun in Texas? The C is a mid-size 9mm at 770 g with 15+1 and a 5.6 lb trigger, which is a sensible starting point. Check Texas carry rules and ask your dealer about holsters that fit a red dot. Does the extended base plate come standard? CZ lists the C at 15+1 standard and 17+1 with the extended base plate, and the F at 17+1 and 19+1. Check the listing for what ships in the box with the model you choose. Is the CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS the same gun as the F? Yes, apart from the manual thumb safety. Chassis, trigger, slide and the 17+1 capacity are identical.
