Colt's 3rd Model Derringer in .41 rimfire, serial 6437, dates to the 1870s and carries a 2.5-inch barrel. More than 95 percent of the nickel remains on the frame, and the metal elsewhere shows a dark bluish gray. The grips are very good with most of the original varnish, and the action works correctly. Overall condition is very good. Used, SKU AC1108, filed under Colt derringers and pocket pistols.
A pocket derringer of this age is a collector's item for a Texas buyer, and the combination of 95 percent nickel, original varnish on the grips and a working action is what a 3rd Model collector looks for. It is not a defensive gun today; its place is in a case beside other Colt pocket arms. Texas has no permit or registration rule for handguns, so the dealer transfer is the whole purchase process.
