This cased Colt 1851 Navy, catalogued as factory engraved, carries serial number 31655 and dates to 1853. It is .36 caliber with a 7.5-inch barrel and the small trigger guard. The metal wears a dark bluish gray patina, and the one-piece ivory grips are rated very good. The gun comes in a factory case with Colt accessories graded very good. An old cabinet card photograph of a soldier accompanies the set, though the supplier states no known connection to the revolver. It is SKU 72205.
For a Texas collector of cased Colts the points are the early serial, the small guard, the ivory grips and the factory case with its accessories, which together make a complete presentation rather than a loose gun. The patina is uniform and dark as described, and the cabinet card is an extra to enjoy without reading provenance into it. It is sold as a used antique for display and reference.
