This kinko menuki is worked on a shakudo ground finished in nanako, with a design of small birds set among foliage. Gold, silver and copper highlights pick out the birds and leaves against the dark base metal, and the supplier describes the detail as very nice. The piece is unsigned. It is listed under Japanese swords, fittings and firearms as SKU MGJ781 and sold in used condition, as is normal for antique sword furniture.

A fitting of this kind suits a Texas collector of Japanese sword furniture who wants a decorative piece for a mounting project or a display tray. The three-metal highlights on the shakudo give the small scene contrast that reads well under glass, and the unsigned status is stated plainly so the buyer judges it on workmanship alone. Compare the bird-and-foliage subject with the other menuki in the catalogue if you are assembling a matched theme.
