Authentic antique Japanese menuki offered from a well-known collection. The supplier gives no further detail on subject, metal or signature, so the listing photographs are the guide to what the piece shows. It is filed under Japanese swords, fittings and firearms with a used condition grade.

Menuki are the small ornaments fixed under the hilt wrap of a Japanese sword, held by the tsuka-ito and placed to fill the palm of the hand. Collectors in Texas buy them to complete a tsuka, to replace a mismatched set, or simply as small antique metalwork to keep in a fittings box. What this listing offers above all is provenance, the fact that the piece came out of a recognized collection, and a buyer should study the photographs for subject, metal and wear before deciding how it fits alongside their own tsuba, fuchi and kashira.
